Britney Spears addressed her decision to break her silence in court regarding her conservatorship, explaining to fans on social media Thursday that she pretended to be happy because of her pride.

Britney Spears said that a team led by her father, who is her conservator, prevented her from having her IUD removed. The U.S. has a dark history of court-sanctioned sterilization, but recent rulings and legislation suggest it would violate a basic right.

Britney Spears said she had not known she needed to petition the court to be released from her conservatorship, placing a focus on the court-appointed counsel who has represented her for 13 years. 

Britney said "They’ve done a good job at exploiting my life, so I feel like it should be an open court hearing and they should listen to what I have to say. A lot has happened since two years ago ... I don’t think I was heard on any level when I came to court last time.”
