UN urges restraint in Kazakhstan, with Multiple reportedly killed Amid alarming reports of deadly violence in Kazakhstan, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet has urged security forces, protesters and others to refrain from violence and to seek a peaceful resolution of grievances. Death toll continues to mount in Kazakhstan’s unrest, with several more police officers confirmed killed and ahundreds injured . Situation in Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest metropolis, spirals out of control. The president imposes a curfew and deploys the military to quell the anti-government protests.   At least 18 police officers and  military servicemen were killed in clashes in Kazakhstan. Units of the 45th brigade of the SOF of Russian Airborne Forces Kubinka airborne troops from Ivanovo and Ulyanovsk were sent to Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO forces. Protesters attempt to topple a statue of Kazakhstan's former president Nazarbayev Protesters attempt to topple a statue of Kazakhstan's former president Nazarbayev in the city of Taldykorgan, but it may have been a rather hard task, as the monument is still standing.  Protesters in Kazakhstan stormed government buildings and captured police vehicles on a fourth day of demonstrations driven by outrage over surging gas prices. Anger has swelled despite some government concessions and a strict state of emergency. President of Kazakhstan Tokayev vows "maximum toughness" from now on in TV address to the nation. Announces Nazarbayev is no longer the chairman of the Security Council.  President Tokayev says that from now on the authorities intend to act as harshly as possible against offenders during the protests.
