UK has recorded 11,625 positive COVID-19 cases and 27 deaths in the last 24-hours


A new 11,625 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the UK in the latest 24 hour period. A further 27 people have died in the UK within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19, taking the total to 128,008.

Scientists have indicated that the third wave of coronavirus infections is probably started in England due to the rapid spread of the Delta variety, despite the fact that hospital admissions are unlikely to be as high as they were in January

Delta coronavirus variant, first identified in India, is believed to be 60% more contagious than the Alpha (B.1.1.7) variant first detected in the UK. It can cause severe symptoms. 

The UK government signals it will keep restrictions on overseas travel in place for now to control a surge in coronavirus infections and the risk of new variants of the virus taking hold
