First Omicron cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Northern Ireland


First Omicron cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Northern Ireland after three people tested positive for the variant. 

Three Omicron cases have been confirmed in total - two in the same household in the greater Belfast area and a third unconnected case in the South Eastern Trust area.

Department of Health said in a statementAll three positive cases have linkages to travel from Great Britain to Northern Ireland

Experts say you can protect yourself from the omicron coronavirus variant by doing the same things done to protect from any other variant: get vaccinated, wear a mask and avoid crowds.
