First Omicron related death is reported in Israel



The number of COVID-19 cases in Israel, proven to be the new highly infectious Omicron variant, has doubled in a single day to 341 cases. This comes as the first Omicron related death is reported in Israel.

Israel will become the first country in the world to administer the 4th COVID-19 vaccine. The first group eligible will be people age 60+ and medical personnel.

Israeli Prime Minister NaftaliBennett’s decision to prepare for an extensive roll-out operation of the 4th vaccine came at the recommendation of Israel’s Pandemic Response Team and will give greater protection in the face of Omicron.

Israel "Over-60, medical staff and those with a suppressed immune system will be eligible for a 4th dose provided 4 months have passed since 3rd dose. The recommended gap between a 2nd and 3rd dose is also being shortened from 5 months to 3 months."
